How to get to Placencia from Independence.

The Hokey Pokey water taxi — 15 minutes across the lagoon from the mainland to the peninsula.

Placencia sits across a shallow lagoon from Independence village on the Belize mainland. The Hokey Pokey Water Taxi crosses in about 15 minutes — the quickest, cheapest way to reach the peninsula from Independence, and how our guests do it every day.

Hokey Pokey Water Taxi — daily schedule

Where to find the docks

The Independence-side dock is at the water's edge in Independence village, five minutes from The Toucan Inn — a short taxi ride away. On the Placencia side, the boat lands at the MnM Gas Station dock in the village, walking distance to the main street, restaurants and the beach.

Stay mainland-side at The Toucan Inn

The Toucan Inn is a natural base for day trips to the peninsula and back — 17 rooms, a pool, an onsite restaurant, and a five-minute drive to the Hokey Pokey dock.
